How do I get to Nepal?

If you already do not know where Nepal is (which might be the case), take a globe, or for the more net savvy, get on google earth and spin it to where India and China are.. between these two countries, you will find a small country with the mighty Himalayas on its north. That is where you are planning to come. There are basically two ways into the country, by land and by air.

By Air

Nepal is connected directly from Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, Mumbai, Varanasi in India, and with Bangkok, Kaulalumpur, Tokyo, Doha, Dubai, Bahrain, Dhaka. Direct charter flights also take place in season from Europe.

For Europe and UK, the best bet is to take either the Qatar or Gulf Air flights into either Doha or Bahrain and take the connection. Another option is also to fly overnight flights to Delhi and take one of the five or six different airlines who connect you with Kathmandu.

From the East Coast of the US, you can fly Air India direct to Delhi and take a connection, or for the more adventurous, can take a mamoth 17 hour flight to Bangkok (believe it or not, it goes over the West coast) and take a connection into Nepal.

From the West coast, Northwest flies to Tokyo and then to Nepal via the connection, or a connection via Seoul, or Bangkok is best.

Newer connections come up from time to time, so watch this space

By Land

There are two ways in, from China, via the freindship highway from Tibet, or via the south, through the very many roads that link up with India. From Delhi, the best way would be to take an overnight train to Gorakhpur, cross the border to Sunauli and take a overnight or day bus to Kathmandu.
