moderate trekking from NPR 8999 per person Dates: 22 Mar – 28 Mar 2011 OverviewOverviewDeveloped by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme, the Tamang Heritage Trail (THT) offers an in-depth look at the culture of the Tamangs (originally Tibetans who came into Nepal during the Salt War). The trek is unique, culturally rich, includes historically famous sites such as the Tatopani (Hot Water) Springs, and passes close to the ancient fortress of Rasuwagadhi. It includes homestays in some of the villages, and overall is not a strenuous trek. Over the last few years, youth of this area, organized into the Grameen Paryatan Prabardan Tatha Digo Batabaran Sanrakshan Kendra Nepal (roughly translated into the Village Tourism Development and Sustainable Environment Protection Center Nepal), have been steadily conscious of the adverse environmental impacts of tourism in the trekking area. This trek focuses on sensitizing the local populace on this issue and offering solutions. Efforts are on to invite the Girl Clubs of Gorkha who have effectively cleaned up their Village Development Committee, so that this can be shared and hopefully adapted for the Tamang Heritage Trail. This trip fundraises for the activities of the Grameen Paryatan Prabardan Tatha Digo Batabaran Sanrakshan Kendra Nepal. Socialtours supports this trip by helping design the trip, and providing marketing & logistic support. What's Included & Excluded
