27th July: socialtours.com initiated environment conservation awareness workshop in joint collaboration with Highlander Trekking & Hima Adventure Int’l of a one day workshop on Environment Conservation with support from Nepal Tourism Board/Sustainable Tourism Network (STN) as part of our mission to spread the word of responsible practices by tourism professionals. 45 participants from the tourism sector attended the workshop at Nepal Tourism Board . The first presentation was made by Mr. Lila Bahadur Manager, Manager-Sustainable Tourism Development Unit and Wilson Kumar Sharma (Officer STDU) on New Tourism Destinations highlighting the new routes in the trekking destinations as of Everest region, Dolpa, Chepang hill and Langtang region. The second presentation was made by Mr. Ukesh Bhuju, Director-Conservation of Nepal nature.com and President of Nepal Heritage Society on Culture Heritage sites of Nepal. The third presentation was made by Mr. P. Yalamber Rai, Program officer of KEEP on Tourism and Environment with emphasis on trekking responsibly. The main objective of the program had been to educate and sensitize tourism professionals, guides, home stay owners on various environmental issues, community conservation practices and managment of wastages. After lunch, the participants were driven to Godavari at the Demonstration site of ICIMOD for a training programme on solid waste management techniques.
